Not clear why this is the case, but the WebDAV client in Explorer on XP has been somewhat broken for years.

Specifying a URL like this won’t work:

https://example.com/webdav

Instead you need to explicitly specify the port:

https://example.com:80/webdav

No idea why it works this way – perhaps someone at Microsoft can tell us.
